Thanksgiving - Supplement Update -
Posted on Saturday November 22, 2008 by Pete

So far nothing major to report with 'The Asteroid Stack,' as I'm still hovering between 220 and 223 lbs.  It's been just over a week, so it's too early to make a judgement call one way or the other.  I do seem a bit fuller when I look in the mirror, but it's hard to tell for sure.  I'll definitely keep all of you posted on this.

Now, as far as Thanksgiving, I have to say that it is my favorite Holiday.  Turkey and football, more turkey and football, lol.  Thanksgiving can actually be an asset to your training routine if you play your cards right, and follow my advice.  The problem that Thanksgiving can bring to someone interested in the fitness lifestyle are the sides, appetizers and desserts.  Here is how you can avoid falling into that nutritional pitfall.  Let's say that you are planning on having your turkey feast around 3 pm.  Here is how you should structure your day.

9 am: 3 egg whites

11 am: protein bar

1 pm: Whey Protein Shake

3 pm: TURKEY FEAST

8 pm (if you are still hungry) cottage cheese or leftover turkey (no sides allowed here)

The rationale behind eating this way is this - if you have 3 small meals preceeding the Turkey Feast, you will be less likely to indulge in the munchies and appetizers that are set out when you arrive around say 2 pm.  If you only have breakfast, you will be VERY tempted to fall off the wagon between 2 and 3 and indulge in all the things you know you shouldn't, but by having those protein meals beforehand, you should be able to withstand the urge and wait until the Turkey is served.  Now, here is how you can structure the Turkey Feast in order to maximize your fitness gains.  When the Turkey is served, for your first portion, eat nothing but turkey.  For your second portion, which will in all likelihood be a a bit smaller, you can add a small portion of the sides (potatoes, casserole, gravy, etc), but remember, you still want A LOT of turkey and A LITTLE bit of the sides, not the other way around.  Fill your stomach with protein, and go ahead and eat enough turkey where you will have absolutely zero appetite for dessert.  So, when your host asks if you want dessert, you can simply say: 'If I have another bite of food, I'll burst, so I'll have to pass on the dessert.'  I hope this helps all of you survive Thanksgiving, and continue on your routines.
