Sick
Posted on Wednesday October 08, 2008 by Pete
So, on Sunday night, I started coming down with flu-like symptoms (sore throat, fatigue, coughing, achiness), and it got worse on Monday. I haven't been to the gym yet this week, and will probably take the entire week off from training. This is actually a good thing every so often - taking a week off from training that is, not getting sick. When you train week in and week out, you are creating microtears in the muscle, and sometimes if you are training 4 or 5x a week, you never truly 'heal,' so every so often, it is advised to take a week off. I generally am such a gym rat that I cannot 'force' myself to do this, so it only happens if I get sick, or a hurricane hits and power is lost. I want to share with you some tips and tricks that I've been doing to help my immune system strengthen and fight off the sickness.
1. Drinking Orange Juice mixed with VIBE (a liquid multivitamin/multimineral) a few times a day.
2. Taking airborne at least 2x a day
3. Drinking tea with honey 2 or 3x a day
4. Eating chicken soup, preferably from a jewish deli (jewish penicillin, as it is called)
5. Drinking 'The Cure' fresh juice from a local juice place called JuiceandJava. It consists of carrot, celery, beet, cucumber, spinach, garlic, ginger, apple, lemon and lime.
6. Resting as often as possible as well as getting a minimum of 8 hrs of sleep.
7. Supplementing with L-Lysine, L-Glutamine, Vitamin C and probiotics (helpful bacteria)
We are going to be in the heart of winter soon, so it is important to try to do some of the things above when you start to feel you are getting sick, giving your immune system a chance to fight it off before you resort to going to the doctor for antibiotics. Keep training hard and keep healthy!

Pamela Williams: Get well soon Peter. I'll be praying for you. Let me know if I can help in any way. I am worried sick about all this. Do whatever the doctor says to do. I don't want to give medical advice so listen to them. they know best. Hugs and Kisses, Pamela Williams10/08/2008
Daniel (Buenos Aires): Well, Pete, wish you get better soon ... although in these cases it is mostly a matter of waiting for days to go by until you get better. I understand you are in Florida and it isn't really cold there, but sometimes conditioned air is a menace ... Have a little patience, you'll be OK pretty soon!!!! DanielAdd a Comment
