Question and Answer, May 4th
Posted on Monday May 04, 2009 by Pete

"Hey Pete, Hope all is well. I wrote you about a week ago as i am going away in 4 days and not sure what to do about my training whilst im away...please let me know if you didn't get my email and i will re-send it as it explains my travel situation in a bit more depth. And i would love to know what you suggest in a situation like that. But whilst I've got you, I wanted to ask you a questions about my training: I am starting to see results, nothing major (its only week 3) but enough to know something is working. My only concern is I am starting to grow a belly as well !! I do my cardio 2wice a week and am following an eating plan from a program called " The secrets to gaining muscle mass" by Anthony Ellis. Let me know if you are not familiar with the program as it has an in depth eating plan, but to give you an idea, one day for me would be as follows: MEAL 1 (pre-workout) Green tea Dried Oats Fat free Yoghurt Banana Scoop of Whey Protein 200ml Fat free milk MEAL 2 (Post workout) Myoplex Original Shake (mixed with water) Plus 1 Scoop of Whey Protein MEAL 3 6oz of chicken breast 1 cup of brown rice MEAL 4 Myoplex Original Shake (mixed with water) MEAL 5 4egg white omelette Piece of brown toast or a cup of vegetables MEAL 6 Myoplex Original Shake (mixed with water) I drink around 4 liters, often more, of water a day, plus I take L-glutamine, creatine (EAS's Phosphagen HP) and other vitamins with this meal plan. Perhaps my belly growth is a normal thing when gaining mass and maybe i just need to have confidence that i will loose it in the 6 weeks that I have to cut ? Would love your opinion. Thanks again Pete ! sammos "

"Hey Pete Again I commend you on the job that you doing on the site. Since the summer is coming up, and I like to spend more time out of gym and more time outdoors. Most summers I train on a four day split. Monday I train chest and triceps, Tuesday Legs, Wednesday off, Thursday Shoulder, and Friday Back and biceps. I do cardio first thing in the morning, I split it up between HIIT and long distance running. Here's my question, the four days that I am at the gym I train abs. I hate the long ab workout, so what I do is one day I focus on the upper and lower abs (Monday and Thursday), and the other days I focus on the obliques and core (Tuesday and Friday). Do you think that I am overtraining my abs?"

"Hey Peter, you have an amazing body! It seems that most people are looking to lose weight and gain muscle but I feel like I need to gain weight. I am 6'2 and 200lbs with a fast, fast metabolism. Most plans out there are for people who are overweight and need to turn their fat into muscle. I feel like I am always being overlooked because I have trouble keeping weight on. I have a membership to the local Y, but don't know what to do when I get there. Any suggestions? Thanks for doing what you do. "

mikep: Pete, Enjoy all the useful information you provide. I too have been struggling with belly fat as you know! Took your advice and bought a Cortisol blocker. Been on it less than a week and I really am beginning to see results. Feel less bloated, don't have to suck my gut in as much as I use to. Combining this with ab workouts and yes....I did buy an ab belt and that works great too! Thanks for sharing your wealth of information. As for the fresh tomatoe sauce, I agree that making something with fresh ingredients is the way to go. It's just another way to control what you put into your body! Thanks again mikep

Mike: Great advice, as usual! I will add that most tomato sauces are best when made with canned tomatoes (at least according to Giada on Food Network!) - but I guess it depends on the kind of sauce you're making. Keep it up!

Jeffrey W.: Valuable information, can't wait to see you do the pasta sauce!
