Juicing for health
Posted on Tuesday December 06, 2011 by Pete

'What are some great recipes for juicing? I am mainly looking to detox and have clearer skin. What main fruits and vegetables contribute to healthier skin?'

Juicing is one of the healthiest things that you can do for your body, along with eating well, exercising and drinking tea.  I try to get a freshly made juice as often as I am able.  My favorite concoction is this:

Beet
Spinach
Kale
Apple

I just put in a little bit of apple just for the taste.  I love juicing beets since it is a blood purifier, aiding in the creation of new red blood cells.  Also, I try to juice as many different greens as I can such as spinach, kale, parsley, lettuce, cucumber, lettuce, etc.  I stick with greens instead of fruits, so that I can avoid a lot of the sugars found in the fruits, though the fruit-based juices taste a lot better than the greens-based ones.  A trick with juicing is to add ice once you are finished, because there is nothing nastier than room-temperature juice.  As far as specifically for detox and healthier skin, I would try the following recipes below:

Blackberries
Raspberries
Strawberries
Blueberries

_________

Carrot
Celery
Broccoli Head
Spinach
Apple

_________

Vitamins A, B, C, and E are important for healthy, clear skin, and the recipes are loaded with those particular vitamins.  As far as a specific recipe for detox, I would be careful to avoid a lot of the celebrity cleanses that are so in vogue right now.  They are extreme and unhealthy.  You are much better off with trying the two below.  You will notice that the 'detox' is almost the same as my personal favorite with the addition of carrots.

THE CLEANSER
1 Apple
4 Sprigs (handful) of Parsley
2 Cups Spinach
1 Lemon/Lime (peel removed)

THE DETOX
4-5 Leaves of Kale
1-2 Beets
2 Carrots
1 Apple

_________

I hope this helps you, and that you continue forward with juicing.  Again, this is one of the healthiest things that you can do for your body, so definitely be consistent with it, and do it as often as you are able.

lee: don't forget to use spices like tumeric, fresh ginger, garlic. Also, I would always start my day with lemon/pure water combo. Pears should be considered as another food to include while juicing. Hot and bitter foods are excellen choices for the system.
